I'll be a 100% devoted Christian...later.

Christianity.
Salvation.

What do they REALLY mean?
How do they relate?

You think you know what it means
but do you know what the Bible says about it?

Many believe they are going to Heaven when they die
because they believe in God,
and then many also believe that Jesus was the son of God
and died on the cross for our sins/rose from the dead.

But how far does believing get you? Does believing save you, make you a true "Christian", or allow you to enter Heaven on Judgement Day?

I hate to break it to you, but the answer is: NO.

This isn't my own conclusion or understanding.
It's what the Bible says.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” --Matthew 7:21-23

What is a Christian?

Whether you think you're "kind of" a Christian or a "devout" Christian, I STRONGLY suggest you to read the short book, "Not A Fan." by Kyle Idleman. The link below provides you the "back cover summary" of what the book is about, but it is essential to also read the details of the book to gain a better understanding:
http://lifesavinggarden.blogspot.com/2012/07/not-fan.html

“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” --Mark 8:36

“Then Jesus said, ‘If you want to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake, you will save it.” --Luke 9:23-24

"You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Cant you see that faith without good deeds is useless?"     --James 2: 19-20

Even DEMONS and SATAN himself believe in God and tremble with terror, so believing will not give you the salvation that lets you enter the gates of Heaven on Judgement Day.

The RELATIONSHIP is what really matters. And whenever you have a RELATIONSHIP with God, all other things will start fall into place (such as witnessing to others, doing the right thing, living a godly life, changing bad habits, etc.) and the desire to live a life that reflects a follower of Christ will become more important to you.

Watch this video from the awesome series "Crazy Love." It explains how to really fall in love with God and maintain a personal relationship with Him: (sign up for free)

James is one of the many book's of the Bible that has a lot of meaningful scriptures relevant to life.

Conclusion:

Through God's Word, personal examples, devotional videos, and even books that could change your life, you will learn what it really means to be a Christian and what Jesus considers "true salvation."

It's more than just believing. It's a personal relationship with God and believing that His son died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. And when you have that personal relationship with God, your faith by action will become a priority in your life since these things prove to God that you love Him and that you have a genuine faith as a Christian follower.

Don't wait to gain that personal relationship with God.

Don't put off devoting your entire life to God
and making Him your #1 priority for later...

What if there is no "later" for you?
How do you know when you will die?

"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog, here for a little while and then it’s gone. You shouldn’t say what you are going to do or have in the future. What you ought to say is “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that, God willing.” Otherwise, you are boasting about your own plans and such boasting is evil. Remember, it is also a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it." --James 4:13-17

Many spend their lives living for temporary treasures
and desires of this world that will completely disappear
and not matter the very instant you die (whenever that will be).
Nobody knows when they will die.
God says you cannot be a friend of this world and love Him,
for that would be divided loyalty

"You want what you don’t have, but you cant get it so jealously and hatred becomes of you. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong. You want only what will give you pleasure. Don’t you realize that a friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, if you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God." --James 4:2-4

"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. But when you ask Him, make sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is unsettled. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do." --James 1:5-8

We are only on this Earth for a very short time, (some shorter than others) and what you do here DEFINES and DETERMINES your fate....for eternity

I had this moment of realization not too long ago. Read my testimony:
http://thejesussavinggarden.blogspot.com/2012/09/moment-of-realization.html

____________________________________________________________

Turn to God NOW and ask for forgiveness of your sins.
Choose to devote your life to Him daily and let go of the things that turn you away from Him.

Being a Christian is not easy at all, but worth it

Choose your loyalty (the world or God) and act upon it.
Faith without deeds is useless.

Do you love the world, or do you love God?

Commitment: you're either in or you're out...there's no such thing as life in between.

Remember: the best relationship you can have is with God. He loves unconditionally, forgives all your sins when you ask with a genuine heart, is always with you, has sacrificed his only son for you so you can be forgiven of sins and have access to the pathway to God in Heaven, knows everything about you, comforts you in times of fear and sorrow, and so much more. He offers you an internal joy and peace that can not be received by anything or anyone else.

Book of James: Important Scriptures

James 1: 2- 4
(times of trouble, endurance)
When troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance has fully developed, you will be complete, needing nothing.

James 1: 5-8
(seeking wisdom, divided loyalty)
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. But when you ask Him, make sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is unsettled. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

James 1: 19-21
(anger)
You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

James 1: 22, 25
(actions, follow God's law)
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. If you look carefully into the perfect law that sets your free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

James 1: 26-27
(religion, watch your words)
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God means caring for orphans and windows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you!

James 2: 1, 9-10
(favoring people over others)
How can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others? If you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law. For the person who keeps all the laws except one is as guilty as a person who breaks all of God’s laws.

James 2: 13
(showing mercy)
There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.

James 2: 14, 17
(good deeds, faith by action)
What good is it if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?...Faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

James 2: 19-20
(faith by action)
You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Cant you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

James 4: 2-4
(motives during prayer, friend of world)
You want what you don’t have, but you cant get it so jealously and hatred becomes of you. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong. You want only what will give you pleasure. Don’t you realize that a friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, if you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

James 4: 8
(relationship with God)
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.

James 4:11-12
(follow God's law, judging)
Your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or destroy, so what right do you have to judge your neighbor?

James 4: 13-17
(self-confidence in plans, God's will)
As a warning about self-confidence: How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog, here for a little while and then it’s gone. You shouldn’t say what you are going to do or have in the future. What you ought to say is “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that, God willing.” Otherwise, you are boasting about your own plans and such boasting is evil. Remember, it is also a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

James 5: 16
(powerful prayers)
The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

James 5: 19-20
(wanderers)
If someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back will save that person from death and bring about forgiveness of many sins.
